Remember, any of the $399 kits can be mounted on helmets or roll bar like on my
car. They are small and have little wind resistance, you'll still need a
camcorder in the car as well for recording. $50 from every kit goes to my racing
fund.

Practice
One Jason Gomersal spun in front of Adam Proctor. Since he spun also, I thought
it would be a good time to go over the ripple strip and do some farming, spin
and go back on again. I heard a strange sound, and was black flagged after the
sump guard / tin plate began dragging under the car.

we were position 6 out of the 1200cc Vee’s

Practice
2 The battery Failed and we were unable to go out at all. Using the spare
battery to start (Vees have no altenator) we disconnected and the car stopped.
Main battery stuffed, only 3 hours to qualifying, if I didn't qualify I have to
drag the car back to queensland.
Luckily
after a MAJOR HEARTATTACK, someone sold me a battery that was 'sort of ok'. drat
no practice, but we running and charging this battery
Practice
3 We were black flagged – The tin plate had blown back down and spreading
sparks. The return of the sump guard. We had bent it into shape again, but it
was bent back by the airflow.
Several
pit crew for other teams (mine were up on the pitwall wondering where I was)
watched as I came in under the meatball to scrutineering, ripped off the guard
and gave it to the scrutineer, and told him I'd be back for it, jumped in the
car and did some more laps before the red flag. at least *some* practice

For
Qualifying the QLD’ers came up with the idea to draft together. Actually a bad
idea. I could see by the timing unit on my wheel that our times were very bad. I
fell off the back of them and gave it a go myself, but two red flags made it
difficult to get a good lap together

Race 1 Saturday, we were waiting a long time on the dummy
grid.
·
I was afraid to turn the car off after our electrical
problems.
·
Due to my problems so far, I had not tested
the in car camera on the track yet. I found out later that the vibrations
switched the unit off during this race so I don’t have a record of it. Next
race I put the camera the other way up and it recorded fine.
·
Starting in pos 28 (9th in
1200cc) lap one I got a good start moving up to pos 24.
·
Lap two, Darryn Masons 1600 which went off
in lap one caught and passed me, so I fell back to pos25 keeping that through
lap three.
·
On Lap 4 and 5 I improved one position each,
finishing in 23rd 5 positions up on where I started. (5th
in 1200cc)
·
I was the first QLD 1200cc home

Race
Two held at 9am was a chilly 8 degrees, and I didn’t wear my fireproof race
undies. Very chilly

Start
was good, but only just. From 23rd moved up to 21st, and
slotted in behind the faster 1200cc of #40 Jason Kerr (VIC) #49 Guy Lingard
(NSW) #63 Geoff Chappell (ACT) and #8 Nathan Pring (ACT) the only other Spectre
I have raced against (and it was quick) These guys have been doing 1.55’s and
I was not near them till now.

Trading
places with Geoff, I kept my 21st position
dropping back to 22nd on lap 3 and 4.
·
Starting
the last lap, with no oil flags, I made a move under Geoff and he hit the oil.
Keeping the car straight as I could I say Guy head off, and he nearly speared
into me coming back on.
·
With
a lot of sliding I raced conservatively to the line in 18th position
behind Nathan. (3rd in 1200cc)
·
I
was the first QLD 1200cc home.

Race
3 was a 7 lap, but the safety car came out on about lap 4, and that’s how it
ended.
·
There
was nowhere on the track that wasn’t drenched in oil.
·
A
ordinary start from 18th, I fell back many places, but was in 20th
by the end of the first lap. With cars pressuring me from behind, I knew I was
lacking something in grip, so took a defensive line into the second of the
hairpins, turn 8. Braking hard I didn’t lock up, but still I just kept going
with no grip. Finally spinning, taking two others with me, as the grip was
terrible.

By
the end of lap 2 I was in 26th, and fighting back.

5 was under safety car, and as another car pulled off, I ended up in 20th
(9th in 1200cc)
